Rosewood Mayakoba

Ultra-luxury resort woven through the lagoons and mangroves of Mayakoba, with overwater settings and an exclusive beachfront.

Rosewood Mayakoba is woven through the lagoons and mangroves of the Mayakoba development, and it is the only luxury resort in the region where guests and couples routinely arrive by boat. The waterways are the defining feature: overwater suites, lagoon decks and a private beach reached through the mangrove channels.

We have photographed an engagement session here. The boat arrival and the lagoon light are what make a Rosewood gallery distinct — golden hour reflected off still water rather than open sea.

Where to say “I do” — and how each spot photographs

La Palapa at Aquí Me Quedo

A beachfront structure within the Aquí Me Quedo area, currently published for up to 250. It gives a strong ocean frame with more architectural definition than a bare-sand ceremony. Availability matters: Kristina has direct experience of Aquí Me Quedo areas being closed for a separate private event on a session date.

Aquí Me Quedo

Current official event listing publishes the wider beachfront area up to 410. It is one of the property's signature oceanfront event zones, but do not confuse the 410 overall venue ceiling with the separate 250 maximum published for La Palapa.

Beach

Officially published up to 550, the white-sand beach can handle the largest current outdoor scale. It faces the Caribbean, so use it for open-horizon ceremonies and late-day portraits but do not promise the physical sunset over the water.

Lagoon Lawn

Current official copy specifically highlights sunset views across the resort, gardens, jungle and emerald lagoon. This is one of the best current choices for the literal setting-sun direction while keeping water and greenery in frame.

La Ceiba Garden & Kitchen

A lush chef's garden with wood, stone and hanging lights, currently published up to 200. It gives a warmer, more intimate Mexican garden look than the beach and works especially well once direct afternoon sun softens.

Casa del Lago Pool Deck

Current event ceiling 250. Lagoon-side pool, limestone and tropical landscaping give a polished cocktail/reception environment and a useful after-dark lighting transition.

Los Agaves Lawn & Agave Deck

Los Agaves Lawn is currently published up to 100 and Agave Deck up to 40. These smaller green/lagoon-side settings are useful for intimate events, cocktails and portraits without the visual scale of the main beach venues.

Lagoon Canals & Suite Docks

Rosewood's resort identity is built around emerald lagoons, individual docks and boat movement. Lagoon and boat imagery is doable here and worth planning for. Professional photography still requires prior written authorization, and the wedding timeline should reserve real transfer time between lagoon and beachfront zones.

A photo timeline that works here

Based on a winter ceremony (sunset ≈ 6 pm). I adjust it to your date and your venue coordinator's schedule.

2:00 pm
Getting ready — details, dress, final touches
3:15 pm
First look and couple portraits
4:00 pm
Ceremony
4:40 pm
Family and wedding-party photos where the ceremony ends
5:10 pm
Golden-hour couple session
6:15 pm
Reception entrance and first dance
8:00 pm
Open dance floor

First look — yes or no?

Recommended. Boat transfers add time that a standard resort timeline does not account for; a first look protects your portrait window and lets us use the lagoons while the light is still soft.

Logistics worth knowing

Rosewood Mayakoba is inside the gated Mayakoba lagoon complex at Carretera Federal Cancún-Playa del Carmen Km 298, about 45 km by road from CUN according to the current official overview. Guests arrive to suites by boat and move through the car-free property by electric boats, electric golf carts and bicycles. Wedding coverage should treat transfers between lagoon suites, gardens and beachfront venues as real timeline blocks. Also reconfirm event-area availability: Kristina has direct experience of Aquí Me Quedo pool/beach access being closed for another private event on a scheduled session date.

Vendor rules at Rosewood Mayakoba

  • Drone: no
  • Rosewood Mayakoba's current official accommodation policy says commercial photography/filming and professional photo/video equipment are prohibited in private or public resort areas without prior written authorization. Drones are strictly prohibited on or above resort property. Obtain written wedding photography authorization and the event-specific vendor entrance/credential instructions in advance. No current numeric outside-photographer fee is publicly published in the official material reviewed.
  • These rules belong to the resort, not to me. The resort sets the fee, charges it and changes it, often from one season to the next and sometimes from one wedding to the next, so I do not publish an amount here: any number you find online is already out of date for your date. Ask your wedding coordinator at the resort to confirm it in writing, and ask early: it is a real line in the budget. It is also worth asking whether there is any flexibility. Some venues waive or reduce the fee, often when the vendor team books rooms for a few nights or when the wedding is booked through certain agencies, and plenty of couples never find out because they never ask.

The light here

Rosewood gives more directional options than a single-beach resort. The Caribbean beach is east-facing and strongest near sunrise or in softened late afternoon, while the official Lagoon Lawn description specifically highlights sunset views toward the resort/jungle side. For a wedding, protect the final 45 to 60 minutes before sunset for Lagoon Lawn, canals, gardens and west-facing water, and use beach light earlier/later rather than promising an ocean sunset.

Questions couples ask about Rosewood Mayakoba

Have you photographed at Rosewood Mayakoba?

Kristina has photographed sessions at Rosewood, including work in 2023 and again in 2026, so she knows how the property moves. Not a wedding yet, so the wedding guidance is researched rather than lived.

Does Rosewood allow professional photography?

Only with prior written authorization under the current public policy. Rosewood says commercial photography/filming and professional photo/video equipment are prohibited in private or public resort areas without written approval. A wedding team should obtain that approval through the event coordinator before arrival.

Can we use a drone for the wedding?

No under the current published resort policy. Rosewood states that unmanned aerial systems/drones are strictly prohibited on or above resort property.

Which venue is best for actual sunset direction?

Lagoon Lawn is the clearest current official choice because Rosewood specifically describes it as positioned for sunset views across the resort, jungle, gardens and lagoon. The Caribbean beach is the sunrise side.

How many guests can Aquí Me Quedo hold?

Rosewood's current event-space listing publishes the wider Aquí Me Quedo area up to 410, while the separate La Palapa at Aquí Me Quedo is published up to 250. Use the number that matches the exact booked subspace and layout.

Can we use El Pueblito?

Rosewood markets El Pueblito as a Mayakoba-complex courtyard with a white chapel for ceremonies and receptions. Current Rosewood pages conflict on capacity: one listing shows up to 500, while the detailed page says 300 guests meet & feed. Reconfirm the exact wedding layout and whether it is contracted through Rosewood or the broader Mayakoba event team.

How much does a wedding photographer cost at Rosewood Mayakoba?

Experienced destination wedding photographers in this area generally run from about $3,000 to $8,000 USD for the wedding day, and more for multi-day celebrations with film. Most couples marrying at Rosewood Mayakoba book 6-8 hours, so the coverage reaches from getting ready to the party. Travel to this venue is included or minimal, we are local.
