Dreams Puerto Morelos Resort & Spa — the property most couples still know as Hyatt Ziva Riviera Cancun — sits on a sheltered cove in Puerto Morelos, between Cancun and Playa del Carmen. The cove is the defining feature: the water stays calmer than on the open coast, which makes the beach gentler for ceremonies and the reflections cleaner at sunset.
The resort rebranded into the Dreams collection at the end of 2025; the property, the venues and the coordination team are the same ones we have photographed. If your paperwork still says Hyatt Ziva, you are in the right place.
Where to say “I do” — and how each spot photographs
Overwater Gazebo
The resort's most distinctive intimate ceremony option. A current wedding-specialist listing places it at 40 for ceremony, 40 cocktail and 20 seated reception. Open water creates strong reflected light earlier in the afternoon.
Papaya Sand Area
Main beachfront option for larger weddings. Current specialist layout lists 200 ceremony, 200 cocktail and 150 reception. The open Caribbean background is visually strong but fully exposed to wind and bright sand.
Pool Deck 6 / Infinity Pool
Large poolside/over-water visual setup. Current specialist layout lists up to 200 for ceremony and 100 seated reception. Evening lighting and pool reflections can work well after natural light falls.
Pool Deck 1
Smaller poolside option, currently listed around 80 for ceremony and 50 for reception. Better fit for a more compact guest list.
Granada Ballroom
Indoor weather-backup and large-format event space. A current specialist wedding layout places it around 200 for ceremony, cocktail and reception.
Garden Areas
The official resort currently advertises five different gardens. Gardens reduce sand/wind issues and create softer backgrounds, but exact named-garden capacities should be confirmed in the resort's current wedding floor plan.

Optional for ceremonies before 4:30 pm in winter; recommended after. The lawns clear quickly once the ceremony ends, so family photos flow fast and the golden hour stays yours.
Logistics worth knowing
Dreams Puerto Morelos is in Bahía Petempich, Puerto Morelos. The resort's current official page says it is about 20 minutes from Cancun International Airport. The property offers five gardens, beach/gazebo, pool areas, terraces and indoor ballroom spaces, so confirm the exact ceremony-to-reception route before finalizing photography coverage.

- Outside photographers are accepted: there is a wedding from this resort in the portfolio. The resort does not publish a current outside-photographer fee. It does publish a Wedding Pass for guests who are not staying at the hotel, which should not be treated as the photographer's vendor pass unless the wedding coordinator confirms it.
- These rules belong to the resort, not to me. The resort sets the fee, charges it and changes it, often from one season to the next and sometimes from one wedding to the next, so I do not publish an amount here: any number you find online is already out of date for your date. Ask your wedding coordinator at the resort to confirm it in writing, and ask early: it is a real line in the budget. It is also worth asking whether there is any flexibility. The light here
Dreams Puerto Morelos faces the Caribbean, so the water is the sunrise side and sunset falls inland. Protect the final 45 to 60 minutes before sunset for couple portraits. In early January, Puerto Morelos sunset is around 6:18-6:26 p.m.; late June is around 7:32 p.m. The overwater gazebo and beach can be very bright before late afternoon because water and sand reflect light.
