Royalton Riviera Cancun, An Autograph Collection Resort

Large modern all-inclusive resort in Puerto Morelos, between Cancun and Playa del Carmen, with high-capacity venues from beach to ballroom.

Royalton Riviera Cancun is one of the largest modern all-inclusive resorts in Puerto Morelos, with high-capacity venues that run from beach to ballroom and a Sky Hideaway terrace that gives elevated ocean views most beach-level resorts cannot. It is built for celebrations at scale — big guest counts, full weekends, multiple events.

We have photographed weddings here including a Sky Hideaway celebration. What we have learned is that the resort's size is the planning variable: it is a golf-cart property, and the difference between a smooth photo timeline and a rushed one is entirely the buffer time we build in.

Where to say “I do” — and how each spot photographs

Beach

Royalton's official current wedding page lists beach ceremonies for up to 300 guests. It gives the direct Caribbean background but is fully exposed to sun, wind and beach activity.

Ocean View Gazebo

Official current capacity is up to 80 guests. Current specialist venue information also allows cocktail use for approximately 80 and notes a separate venue fee.

Sky Wedding Rooftop

Royalton's official current wedding page lists this rooftop for up to 90 guests. It gives more elevation and separation from the ground-level resort, but sunset still falls inland rather than into the Caribbean.

A photo timeline that works here

Based on a winter ceremony (sunset ≈ 6 pm). I adjust it to your date and your venue coordinator's schedule.

1:30 pm
Getting ready — we start earlier here: moving around this resort is done by golf cart, and we build that time in
3:00 pm
First look and couple portraits
4:00 pm
Ceremony
4:40 pm
Family and group photos before anyone scatters
5:05 pm
Golf cart to the best photo spots — couple session in the golden hour
6:15 pm
Reception entrance and first dance
8:00 pm
Open dance floor

First look — yes or no?

Recommended. On a resort this size a first look de-risks the entire timeline: portraits secured early, and the golden hour reserved for the Sky Hideaway and the shoreline.

Logistics worth knowing

Royalton's official current resort page places Cancun International Airport about 15-20 minutes from the resort by car. The resort is large, so the wedding office should confirm the photographer's arrival point rather than assuming the main guest entrance. At a January wedding here, the coordinator sent the photographer to the vendor and staff entrance. The photographed timeline moved from getting ready and first look to ceremony, cocktail hour and beach portraits within a four-hour coverage block.

Vendor rules at Royalton Riviera Cancun, An Autograph Collection Resort

  • Outside photographers: Accepted
  • Outside photographers are accepted. At a wedding here in January 2026, the couple's Royalton coordinator confirmed that Kristina should enter through the vendor and staff entrance, with the wedding office coordinating access. Reconfirm the current entrance and registration instructions before every wedding.
  • These rules belong to the resort, not to me. The resort sets the fee, charges it and changes it, often from one season to the next and sometimes from one wedding to the next, so I do not publish an amount here: any number you find online is already out of date for your date. Ask your wedding coordinator at the resort to confirm it in writing, and ask early: it is a real line in the budget. It is also worth asking whether there is any flexibility. Some venues waive or reduce the fee, often when the vendor team books rooms for a few nights or when the wedding is booked through certain agencies, and plenty of couples never find out because they never ask.

The light here

Royalton Riviera Cancun sits on the Caribbean coast south of Cancun, so sunrise is over the water and sunset falls inland behind the property. Protect the final 45 to 60 minutes before sunset for portraits, but do not promise an ocean sunset. Around January, sunset in the Puerto Morelos corridor is close to 6:18 p.m.; in June it is around 7:25-7:33 p.m. A January wedding here held beach couple portraits at 4:15 p.m. after a 3:00 p.m. ceremony.

Questions couples ask about Royalton Riviera Cancun, An Autograph Collection Resort

Can we bring our own photographer to Royalton Riviera Cancun?

Yes. Kristina has photographed a wedding at Royalton Riviera Cancun, with access coordinated through the resort's vendor and staff entrance.

Is there an outside photographer fee?

Yes, destination-wedding package sources list one per outside vendor or service, with a limit on how many staff it covers. The resort sets it, collects it and revises it, so we do not publish an amount: any figure would already be old for your date. Ask your wedding coordinator to confirm it in writing.

Where does an outside photographer enter?

At a wedding here the coordinator sent the photographer to the vendor and staff entrance rather than the main one, with the wedding office involved. Ask for the current arrival instructions a few days before.

Which ceremony venue works for the largest guest count?

The Beach is the largest current option, with Royalton listing ceremonies for up to 300 guests. The Ocean View Gazebo is approximately 80 and the Sky Wedding Rooftop approximately 90.

Does the sun set over the ocean at Royalton Riviera Cancun?

No. The Caribbean is on the sunrise side. Sunset falls inland, so we use the late-afternoon light for portraits without describing it as a sun-dropping-into-the-water location.

How much does a wedding photographer cost at Royalton Riviera Cancun?

Experienced destination wedding photographers in this area generally run from about $3,000 to $8,000 USD for the wedding day, and more for multi-day celebrations with film. Travel to this venue is included or minimal, we are local. To see where I would begin for your date, the collections live at /pricing/.

How much time do photos need at Royalton Riviera Cancun?

More than at a compact venue. This is a golf-cart resort, so moving between the suites, the ceremony spot and the best photo locations takes real time. Our timelines build in roughly 25-minute transfers so nothing feels rushed; with 6–8 hours of coverage the day flows comfortably.
