Akumal Wedding Photographer

Akumal means "place of the turtles", and the bay is the reason. It is a protected curve of calm, swimmable water south of Playa del Carmen. Small waves, boats at anchor, palms leaning into the frame. It is one of the gentlest beaches I photograph on this coast. The bay faces east, so the sun rises over the water and sets behind the resort. Evenings are soft rather than dramatic, and the last hour before sunset is when I photograph here.

Secrets Akumal is the venue I know here. It is an adults-only resort, and its compact scale keeps a wedding day relaxed. I have photographed a classic beach ceremony on the bay. I have also photographed a wedding at its Arch Plaza, an open-air ceremony spot with real architectural character. For the plaza I recommend a first look, so we can use that architecture for portraits before the guests fill it. On the beach the light is forgiving, and a ceremony-first timeline works.
