Hyatt Ziva sits on the tip of Punta Cancun, with the sea on three sides. That shape is what makes it different for photographs. The ceremony looks out over open water, and at the end of the day the sun sets over the bay side, by the Punta Cancun lighthouse.
I know this resort well. I have photographed ceremonies at its Cliff Gazebo, portraits by the lighthouse at sunset, receptions on terraces strung with lights over the water, and a full three-day South Asian celebration with a Mehndi, a Hindu ceremony and a Sangeet. It is one of the few resorts on this coast that hosts large and multi-day weddings comfortably.
Where to say “I do” — and how each spot photographs
Cliff Gazebo
The resort’s best-known ceremony spot: a white gazebo on a lawn above the water, listed for up to 200 guests. It gives a clean sea horizon behind the vows. The palms here bend with the wind, so plan the veil and the arch for a breeze.
Lighthouse Gazebo
On a grassy rise near the Punta Cancun lighthouse, listed for up to 150 guests. The red-and-white lighthouse and the rocks below it are my favourite place for portraits in the last light.
Turquoize Lawn
A grass ceremony space in front of the adults-only Turquoize building. Easier on heels and chairs than sand, and open to the sun, so a later ceremony photographs better.
Sahara Beach
The beach option and the largest outdoor space, listed for about 500 guests. Bright sand and open water: it photographs best late in the afternoon.
Rooftop Terrace and Sky Terrace
Elevated open-air terraces with ocean views. At night, with string lights over the water, they make some of the most beautiful receptions I have photographed here.
Firepits and Punta Vista Terrace
A smaller, calmer setting, listed for about 50 guests at a ceremony. It suits welcome drinks and intimate dinners.
Five Elements Ballroom
The largest indoor space at the resort and the rain plan. It also works well for big evening events, like a Sangeet.

The resort’s 2026 rates: the lower figure is Monday to Wednesday, the higher Thursday to Sunday. Each additional guest is charged per person, depending on the package. The resort also lists a South Asian version of the Zama package for larger celebrations, and some ceremony spots, such as the Cliff Gazebo, carry their own venue fee. Confirm everything with the resort’s wedding team, in writing, for your date.

First look — yes or no?
Recommended for larger weddings. The resort is busy and the ceremony spots are spread around the point, so a first look gives you portraits before the ceremony and lets you go straight to your guests after it. For a multi-day celebration I plan portraits event by event.
Logistics worth knowing
Hyatt currently lists about 30 minutes from Cancun International Airport. The Turquoize building is the adults-only part of the resort; families stay in the main buildings. Parking is officially described as guest-only and subject to availability. At one wedding here the coordinator arranged the photographer’s arrival through the wedding office; at another, the couple was told there was no photographer parking and the coordinator arranged a vendor meal.
Vendor rules at Hyatt Ziva Cancun
- Outside photographers: Accepted
- Outside photographers are accepted. Access should be coordinated in advance with the resort wedding team so the photographer can be properly registered for the wedding day. Photographer arrival is usually coordinated through the wedding office. Parking should be confirmed separately, as the resort may not provide vendor parking.
- These rules belong to the resort, not to me. The resort sets the fee, charges it and changes it, often from one season to the next and sometimes from one wedding to the next, so I do not publish an amount here: any number you find online is already out of date for your date. Ask your wedding coordinator at the resort to confirm it in writing, and ask early: it is a real line in the budget. It is also worth asking whether there is any flexibility. Some venues waive or reduce the fee, often when the vendor team books rooms for a few nights or when the wedding is booked through certain agencies, and plenty of couples never find out because they never ask.

The light here
The point has water on both sides. The Caribbean side faces east, so in the afternoon it gets soft, even light. The western bay side, around the lighthouse, is where the sun sets, and that is where I take portraits in the last hour. Plan them for the final 45 to 60 minutes before sunset on your date.

Can we bring our own photographer to Hyatt Ziva Cancun?
Yes. Hyatt Ziva Cancun accepts outside photographers. Access should be coordinated in advance with the resort wedding team so the photographer can be properly registered for the wedding day.
Can our photographer park at the resort?
Do not assume so. Hyatt's current FAQ describes parking as guest-only, and a couple marrying here was told there was no photographer parking.
Does Hyatt provide a vendor meal for the photographer?
At a wedding here the coordinator sent meal options and asked when the photographer wanted to eat, but it is not automatic. Confirm it in your own wedding plan.

Where is the best place for sunset photos at Hyatt Ziva Cancun?
The western, bay-facing side of the point, around the Punta Cancun lighthouse. The Caribbean side faces east, so the sun does not set over that water. I take portraits by the lighthouse in the last 45 to 60 minutes of light.
Is Hyatt Ziva Cancun windy for a wedding?
The point is open to the sea on three sides, so there is almost always a breeze, and more of it in winter. It makes a veil beautiful and undoes a hairstyle made for a ballroom. Ask your stylist for a style that holds, and make sure the arch and the florals are secured.
What happens if it rains at Hyatt Ziva Cancun?
The Five Elements Ballroom is the indoor plan, and the covered terraces give options for portraits. Agree on the rain plan with the coordinator before the day, so the decision on the morning is quick.
Does Hyatt Ziva Cancun host South Asian weddings?
Yes. The resort lists a package for South Asian celebrations, and its scale suits several events across several days. I photographed a three-day celebration here with a Mehndi, a Pithi, a Baraat, a Hindu ceremony and a Sangeet. The order of events changes with every family, so the timeline is built with yours.
