NIZUC Resort & Spa
Secluded luxury resort at Punta Nizuc with two private beaches, contemporary Mayan-inspired design and refined event venues.
NIZUC occupies its own peninsula at Punta Nizuc, at the southern tip of the Cancun hotel zone, with two private beaches and a level of seclusion that no other Cancun resort matches. Contemporary Mayan-inspired architecture, mangrove surroundings and a guest experience deliberately kept quiet — this is the luxury end of Cancun, without the strip.
We have photographed both a wedding and an engagement session here. The two beaches are the practical advantage: one faces the open Caribbean, the other is sheltered, so there is almost always a workable option regardless of wind or time of day.
Where to say “I do” — and how each spot photographs
NIZUC Beach
Current maximum 350 for ceremony, 350 cocktail and 250 banquet. The official wedding page specifically markets sunset views here, so this is one of the strongest large-format oceanfront choices when the exact event layout preserves that orientation.
A'Kan Terrace
Current maximum 150 ceremony, 250 cocktail and 180 banquet. It wraps a large Amate tree, sits close to the lobby and is officially described as having ocean and sunset views. Visually it gives more structure, shade edges and depth than open sand.
NIZUC Garden
Current maximum 250 ceremony, 350 cocktail and 250 banquet. A broad lawn beside mangroves and lagoon water; useful for a green, formal outdoor ceremony/reception and for portraits when the beach is windy or visually harsh.
Private Dock
Current maximum 30 ceremony/cocktail and 18 banquet. The official wedding page markets sunset views and ocean breeze. This is an intimate-scale location with limited physical room for photo/video teams, so team placement and guest count should be planned before ceremony day.
Sian Ka'an Ballroom
Current maximum 350 ceremony, 500 cocktail and 400 banquet in 5,760 sq. ft. with floor-to-ceiling windows, panoramic ocean view and a 21-foot ceiling. It is the strongest current indoor/rain-plan environment and photographs very differently from the beach/terraces.
Terra Nostra Terrace & Lower Deck
Current maximum 200 ceremony, 280 cocktail and 180 banquet. The terrace is surrounded by mangroves/water and overlooks a reflecting pool, making it especially useful for reception and after-party coverage with layered architecture and controlled evening light.
Garden / Residence Suites
A bride here got ready in a garden suite. Current Residence Suites have terraces and garden/ocean options, but room category and access should be confirmed for each wedding rather than promising a specific suite number or view.

First look — yes or no?
Optional. NIZUC is seclusive and calm, so the day rarely feels rushed. For ceremonies after 4:30 pm in winter, a first look keeps the pier and the beach free for golden hour.
Logistics worth knowing
NIZUC sits at Punta Nizuc at the southern end of Cancun's Hotel Zone, at Blvd. Kukulcan Km 21.26. The current resort has 274 suites/villas across roughly 29 acres / 12 hectares, so suite-to-ceremony-to-reception movement is real timeline time. A wedding here included getting-ready coverage in a garden suite, the rehearsal dinner the evening before and movement across the property on the day. Outside photographers do work here, but NIZUC does not publish its vendor fee, credential, entrance, insurance or equipment rules, so confirm them with the events team or your planner.

- Kristina has photographed a wedding and rehearsal dinner here, so outside photographers do work at NIZUC. The resort does not publish a current outside-photographer fee or a complete vendor-access policy on its public wedding pages, and what couples are told has varied a lot from one booking to another. Confirm the current fee, approval, credentials, insurance and entry procedure in writing with your coordinator.
- These rules belong to the resort, not to me. The resort sets the fee, charges it and changes it, often from one season to the next and sometimes from one wedding to the next, so I do not publish an amount here: any number you find online is already out of date for your date. Ask your wedding coordinator at the resort to confirm it in writing, and ask early: it is a real line in the budget. It is also worth asking whether there is any flexibility. Some venues waive or reduce the fee, often when the vendor team books rooms for a few nights or when the wedding is booked through certain agencies, and plenty of couples never find out because they never ask.

The light here
Unlike a simple east-facing Riviera Maya beach, NIZUC's official wedding material specifically identifies sunset views at A'Kan Terrace, NIZUC Beach and the private Dock. Build portraits around the exact contracted space and reserve the final 45 to 60 minutes before sunset when possible. For the beach/dock, protect highlights and wind; for Garden/Terra Nostra, use the softer reflected light and layered greenery/water. Recalculate sunset for the exact date.

Have you photographed at NIZUC?
Yes. Kristina photographed a wedding and its rehearsal dinner at NIZUC, so the property, the movement between spaces and the light are familiar ground.
Does NIZUC charge an outside-photographer fee?
There is no public tariff, and the reports conflict: one couple marrying here was told there was no separate fee beyond their wedding package, while years earlier a different client was quoted one along with restrictions on the beach. Because those come from different years and packages, the terms have to be confirmed in writing for your date.
What is the largest current ceremony space?
NIZUC Beach and Sian Ka'an are both published for ceremonies up to 350. The right choice is not only guest count: beach is open-air/oceanfront, while Sian Ka'an is an indoor ballroom with panoramic windows and a 21-foot ceiling.
Where is best for sunset portraits?
NIZUC's own wedding page specifically advertises sunset views at A'Kan Terrace, NIZUC Beach and the private Dock. Choose based on the contracted event location and guest flow rather than assuming every shoreline angle has the same sunset view.
Can we use a drone?
No current official public drone rule was found in the material reviewed. Because NIZUC is close to Cancun International Airport, do not assume a drone is permitted even if the resort approves the idea. Confirm property permission and applicable aviation rules before planning any aerial coverage.
How much movement time should we allow?
More than at a compact boutique hotel. NIZUC spreads 274 suites/villas and multiple beach, terrace, garden and ballroom spaces across a large Punta Nizuc property. Protect transfer time between getting ready, ceremony, portraits and reception instead of building a back-to-back timeline.
How much does a wedding photographer cost at NIZUC Resort & Spa?
Experienced destination wedding photographers in this area generally run from about $3,000 to $8,000 USD for the wedding day, and more for multi-day celebrations with film.
