Atelier Playa Mujeres Wedding Photographer
Adults-only all-inclusive art resort in Costa Mujeres with contemporary Mexican art throughout and polished modern event spaces.
ATELIER Playa Mujeres is the adults-only, design-forward resort of the northern coast, with contemporary Mexican art everywhere and sharp modern architecture. It is about 35 minutes from Cancun airport, and it sells its weddings as complete packages for around 50 guests.
The wedding I have published here moved through almost every setting the resort has. The bride’s portraits were made in front of a large mural, and the couple walked a wooden boardwalk through the green to the beach. The ceremony was on the sand, under a round arch of tropical flowers. Then came portraits on an open lawn as the sky turned pink, and a reception in the garden under string lights, with mariachi.
Where to say “I do” — and how each spot photographs
Beach Area
Listed for ceremonies of up to about 150 guests and receptions of 250. Our ceremony here was on the sand, under a round wooden arch of tropical flowers. The sand and open exposure bring brighter contrast and more wind earlier in the afternoon.
Murals and art-filled interiors
Large contemporary murals and Mexican art through the halls and suites. The bride’s portraits in my gallery here were made in front of a blue and white mural.
Boardwalk through the green
A wooden boardwalk with railings through the vegetation between the resort and the beach. It made the couple portraits right before the ceremony.
The open lawn
A wide lawn with nothing on the horizon but trees and sky. At sunset the sky over it turned pink, and it gave the couple portraits of the day.
Don Fernando Terrace
A Caribbean-view terrace listed for ceremonies of about 90 guests. An elevated alternative to standing directly in the sand.
El Cielo
A panoramic open-air terrace listed for ceremonies of about 90 to 100 guests. It is elevated and exposed, so wind and direct sun matter when choosing the ceremony time.
Limón & Sal Garden
A green, open-sky garden listed for ceremonies of up to about 180 guests and receptions of 130. Tropical vegetation instead of a sand backdrop.
San José Chapel
ATELIER’s Catholic chapel, listed for ceremonies of about 80 to 100 guests, and a covered alternative to the open-air venues.
La Punta Deck and Suspiro
Reception spaces listed for about 140 to 250 guests, with La Punta Deck facing the ocean.

Logistics worth knowing
Kristina has photographed a full wedding at ATELIER Playa Mujeres. The resort is large and L-shaped, with the beach at one end, so some rooms are a long walk from it, and golf carts help. Map the getting-ready, ceremony, cocktail and reception spaces before finalizing the photography timeline. - Kristina has photographed a full wedding at ATELIER Playa Mujeres, so an outside photography team can be admitted. Current photographer fees, day-pass requirements, registration steps and parking should still be confirmed with the wedding team for the specific date.
- These rules belong to the resort, not to me. The resort sets the fee, charges it and changes it, often from one season to the next and sometimes from one wedding to the next, so I do not publish an amount here: any number you find online is already out of date for your date. Ask your wedding coordinator at the resort to confirm it in writing, and ask early: it is a real line in the budget. It is also worth asking whether there is any flexibility. Some venues waive or reduce the fee, often when the vendor team books rooms for a few nights or when the wedding is booked through certain agencies, and plenty of couples never find out because they never ask.

The light here
Playa Mujeres faces the Caribbean to the east, so the sun sets inland, behind the resort. Reserve the final 45 to 60 minutes before sunset for outdoor portraits whenever the timeline allows. Right after sunset the sky often turns pink, and the open lawn is a good place to be for it. Open venues such as the beach, El Cielo and Don Fernando Terrace are more comfortable later in the day than under strong midday sun.
