Atelier Playa Mujeres

Adults-only all-inclusive art resort in Costa Mujeres with contemporary Mexican art throughout and polished modern event spaces.

ATELIER Playa Mujeres is the adults-only, design-forward option of the northern coast — contemporary Mexican art throughout, sharp architecture, and a level of finish that photographs like a five-star editorial set. Couples who choose ATELIER tend to care about aesthetics, which makes our job a pleasure.

It is a golf-cart resort (the towers and event spaces spread wide), and its art-filled interiors give rainy-day plans and portrait sessions a depth most resorts can’t offer.

Where to say “I do” — and how each spot photographs

Beach Area

ATELIER currently lists the Beach Area for ceremonies of roughly 50 to 150 guests. It gives the cleanest Caribbean backdrop, but the sand and open exposure create brighter contrast and more wind earlier in the afternoon.

Don Fernando Terrace

A Caribbean-view terrace currently listed for ceremonies of roughly 50 to 90 guests. It gives an elevated, polished alternative to standing directly in the sand.

El Cielo

A panoramic open-air venue currently listed for ceremonies of roughly 50 to 90 guests. Because it is elevated and exposed, wind and direct sun should be considered when selecting ceremony time.

Limón & Sal Garden

A green, open-sky setting currently listed for ceremonies up to roughly 180 guests. It is useful for couples who want tropical vegetation instead of a sand-forward ceremony backdrop.

San José Chapel

ATELIER's Catholic chapel is currently listed for ceremonies of roughly 50 to 100 guests and provides a more controlled alternative to the resort's open-air venues.

A photo timeline that works here

Based on a winter ceremony (sunset ≈ 6 pm). I adjust it to your date and your venue coordinator's schedule.

1:30 pm
Getting ready — we start earlier here: moving around this resort is done by golf cart, and we build that time in
3:00 pm
Bride portraits and first look
4:00 pm
Ceremony
4:40 pm
Family and group photos before anyone scatters
5:05 pm
Golf cart to the best photo spots — couple session in the golden hour
6:15 pm
Reception entrance and first dance
8:00 pm
Open dance floor and party

First look — yes or no?

Yes — and use the interiors. An indoor first look among the art gives your gallery its editorial signature, and on a golf-cart resort it locks in portrait time no matter how the day runs.

Logistics worth knowing

Kristina has photographed a full wedding at ATELIER Playa Mujeres. The resort has multiple event zones rather than one single wedding lawn, so exact getting-ready, ceremony, cocktail and reception locations should be mapped before finalizing the photography timeline. Current resort information lists Beach Area, Don Fernando Terrace, El Cielo, Relax Sundeck, Limón & Sal Garden, La Punta Deck and San José Chapel among its wedding spaces.

Vendor rules at Atelier Playa Mujeres

  • Outside photographers: Accepted
  • Kristina has photographed a full wedding at ATELIER Playa Mujeres, so an outside photography team can be admitted. Current photographer fees, day-pass requirements, registration steps and parking should still be confirmed with the wedding team for the specific date.
  • These rules belong to the resort, not to me. The resort sets the fee, charges it and changes it, often from one season to the next and sometimes from one wedding to the next, so I do not publish an amount here: any number you find online is already out of date for your date. Ask your wedding coordinator at the resort to confirm it in writing, and ask early: it is a real line in the budget. It is also worth asking whether there is any flexibility. Some venues waive or reduce the fee, often when the vendor team books rooms for a few nights or when the wedding is booked through certain agencies, and plenty of couples never find out because they never ask.

The light here

For outdoor portraits, reserve the final 45 to 60 minutes before sunset whenever the timeline allows. The Playa Mujeres beach faces the Caribbean side, so the visual payoff is soft late-afternoon light rather than a sun-setting-into-the-ocean angle. Open venues such as the beach, El Cielo and Don Fernando Terrace are more comfortable photographically later in the day than under strong midday sun.
