Dreams Playa Mujeres is a large, polished all-suite resort inside the gated Playa Mujeres community, on Cancun’s quiet northern coast. It hosts weddings of almost every size, from an elopement to a celebration of 350 guests in the Central Garden.
The weddings I have photographed here show its range. The ceremonies were on the sand, under a wooden pergola, a floral arch and a white draped canopy. The receptions went from an open lawn under string lights to the ballroom. In between, the stone stairs and garden paths between the buildings are where I take most of the portraits.
Where to say “I do” — and how each spot photographs
Beach
The main ceremony option, listed for about 300 guests. Every ceremony I have photographed here was on the sand, facing the water. It is fully exposed to sun and wind, so the ceremony time matters more than the décor.
Beach Gazebo
A beachfront ceremony structure on a wooden platform, listed for about 150 guests. It gives the ceremony a defined frame without leaving the sand.
Over the Water
An elevated ceremony platform listed for about 80 guests. A venue fee applies, so ask the coordinator for the current amount.
Stone stairs and garden paths
Limestone walls, wide stone stairs and tropical planting between the buildings. This is where I have done first looks, wedding-party photos and portraits at several weddings here, in shade and close to the suites.
Central Garden
An open-air lawn listed for up to about 350 guests, for a ceremony, cocktail hour or reception. Lawn receptions look their best at night, under string lights and around an open dance floor.
Ballroom and Azure Veranda
The indoor reception spaces. The ballroom is listed for about 250 guests and the air-conditioned Azure Veranda for about 100. They are also the rain plan.
Mermaid and Cove terraces
Smaller terraces for a cocktail hour or an intimate dinner. The Mermaid Terrace overlooks the pools and gardens.
Presidential Suite Terrace
A more private terrace option, listed for approximately 80 guests.
Paramount Suite Oceanview Rooftop
A private elevated option for a smaller wedding, listed around 60 guests. The resort asks for the Paramount Suite to be reserved for at least two nights.

Ranges, not quotes: each source publishes a slightly different 2026 rate, and August to October and Monday to Wednesday are usually lower. Each additional guest is charged per person, and the Wedding in Paradise package can be free with a qualifying room booking. Several packages include short photo or video coverage by the resort’s own team; if you bring your own photographer, ask how that changes the package. Confirm everything with the resort’s wedding team, in writing, for your date.

Recommended. The garden paths and stone stairs give a first look shade and privacy, close to the suites. Portraits done early leave the last light free for the beach.
Logistics worth knowing
Dreams Playa Mujeres is inside the gated Playa Mujeres community, north of Cancun, about 35 to 45 minutes from Cancun International Airport. The resort is large but walkable. Guests get around on foot, and golf carts mainly run to Secrets Playa Mujeres next door. The suites, the gardens and the beach are close together, so the photo timeline flows without long transfers. The ballroom and the Azure Veranda are the indoor options if it rains.

- Outside photographers are accepted. Kristina has photographed several weddings here, with access coordinated around the resort timeline as usual. The resort does not publish its outside vendor fee, so confirm the amount and the registration procedure in writing with the resort wedding team before booking.
- These rules belong to the resort, not to me. The resort sets the fee, charges it and changes it, often from one season to the next and sometimes from one wedding to the next, so I do not publish an amount here: any number you find online is already out of date for your date. Ask your wedding coordinator at the resort to confirm it in writing, and ask early: it is a real line in the budget. It is also worth asking whether there is any flexibility. Some venues waive or reduce the fee, often when the vendor team books rooms for a few nights or when the wedding is booked through certain agencies, and plenty of couples never find out because they never ask.

The light here
Playa Mujeres faces the Caribbean to the east, so the sun sets inland, behind the resort. Plan portraits for the final 45 to 60 minutes before sunset on your date. Sunset runs from about 6:10 to 6:30 p.m. in winter to about 7:30 p.m. in summer, and the ceremony time guide calculates it for your exact date.
