Finest Playa Mujeres is the modern one on the northern coast: white architecture, clean lines and tropical gardens, inside the gated Playa Mujeres community. It suits couples who want a contemporary look and a wedding of up to about 120 guests.
In the weddings I have photographed here, the ceremony was at the Stone Gazebo, a white pavilion near the beach framed by hedges and palms. The receptions were under the resort’s palapas, and the dancing moved to a wooden deck under string lights. For portraits I use the white walls and bougainvillea paths, the grand staircase in the lobby and the beach in the last light.

Stone Gazebo
A white pavilion near the beach, framed by hedges and palms, listed for about 50 guests. Both ceremonies I have photographed here were at the Stone Gazebo. Ask the coordinator whether a venue fee applies for your date.
Beach
Direct Caribbean ceremony option, listed for about 120 guests for a ceremony, cocktail hour or reception. It is fully exposed to wind and bright sand.
Grand Palapa
A covered beachfront reception space, listed for about 120 guests. The receptions I photographed here were under palapas, with tables among the palms and the dancing on a wooden deck under string lights.
White walls and garden paths
White stucco walls, pale stone paths and bougainvillea between the buildings. Clean, bright backgrounds for the first look and the couple portraits.
Lobby staircase
The grand white staircase in the lobby, with its black geometric pattern. It fits a whole wedding party in one frame, and it is where I have taken the group photos here.
Las Dunas Beach House
A smaller beachside lounge, listed around 80 guests for cocktails and 50 for a reception. It suits an intimate dinner better than a large event.
Sky Bar Terrace
An elevated ocean-view terrace, listed around 60 guests for cocktails and 80 for a reception.

Logistics worth knowing
Finest Playa Mujeres sits inside the gated Playa Mujeres community north of Cancun, about 40 to 45 minutes from Cancun International Airport. The resort is walkable. The suites, the gardens, the Stone Gazebo and the beach are a short walk apart, so portraits move between spots without long transfers. The resort assigns event spaces by guest count and availability, so ask early which ones are open for your date. The ballroom is the rain plan.

- These rules belong to the resort, not to me. The resort sets the fee, charges it and changes it, often from one season to the next and sometimes from one wedding to the next, so I do not publish an amount here: any number you find online is already out of date for your date. Ask your wedding coordinator at the resort to confirm it in writing, and ask early: it is a real line in the budget. It is also worth asking whether there is any flexibility. Some venues waive or reduce the fee, often when the vendor team books rooms for a few nights or when the wedding is booked through certain agencies, and plenty of couples never find out because they never ask.

The light here
Playa Mujeres faces the Caribbean to the east, so the sun sets inland, behind the resort. Plan portraits for the final 45 to 60 minutes before sunset on your date. Sunset runs from about 6:10 to 6:30 p.m. in winter to about 7:30 p.m. in summer. For a 5:00 p.m. ceremony in winter, decide beforehand whether the main portraits happen before the ceremony or right after it.
