A photoshoot in Cancun works best in the late afternoon. I start most sessions around 4 p.m. in winter and 5 p.m. in summer, so they end in the last light before sunset. The beaches face east, and the hotel zone is a strip between the sea and the lagoon, so the sun sets over the lagoon side.
That is why the side of the resort matters. At Hyatt Ziva the bay side catches the sunset. At NIZUC the terrace, the beach and the private dock all have the evening light.

What is the best time of day for a photoshoot in Cancun?
Late afternoon: around 4 p.m. in winter and 5 p.m. in summer, depending on the sunset that season. The sun sets over the lagoon, so the best sessions end on the lagoon side of the hotel zone, or at a resort with spaces facing west. Midday light is hard on faces, so I plan around it.

Can we do the session at our hotel?
Yes, and it is often the easiest option. Some hotels have rules for outside photographers, and a few charge a fee. That is set by the hotel, so it is worth asking the front desk or your concierge before the day.
Is sargassum a problem for a beach session in Cancun?
It can be. Sargassum changes from year to year, from beach to beach and week to week. If it arrives, we photograph at your resort, by the lagoon or on a stretch of beach that is clear that morning.
