A photoshoot in Playa del Carmen works best in the late afternoon. I start most sessions around 4 p.m. in winter and 5 p.m. in summer, so they end in the last light before sunset. The beaches face east, so the sun sets inland, behind the resorts, and the sand gets soft, even light.
The resorts around Playa del Carmen give each session its own setting. Rosewood Mayakoba has pools lined with bougainvillea, Grand Velas has jungle pools and a wide beach, and Valentin has the arches of a hacienda. One session here was simply on the beach at Playacar, in town.

What is the best time of day for a photoshoot in Playa del Carmen?

Can we do the session at our hotel?
Yes, and it is often the easiest option. Some hotels have rules for outside photographers, and a few charge a fee. That is set by the hotel, so it is worth asking the front desk or your concierge before the day.
Is sargassum a problem for a beach session in Playa del Carmen?
It can be. Sargassum changes from year to year, from beach to beach and week to week. If it arrives, we photograph at your resort or on a stretch of beach that is clear that day.
