Dreams Tulum feels like a hacienda by the sea: white colonial buildings, a chapel, gardens with fountains, long walkways under palms and a wide, calm beach. It sits on the coast just north of Tulum, about an hour and a half from Cancun airport.
What makes it special for photographs is the variety inside one resort. In a single wedding I can move from the Secret Garden’s path under the palms to the white staircases and balustrades, the long garden with its fountain and the open beach, without leaving the property. I have photographed weddings here in the Secret Garden, on the Sunset Rooftop, on the beach and under a palapa.
Where to say “I do” — and how each spot photographs
Central Beach
The largest beach ceremony spot, listed for up to 250 guests. Wide, calm white sand and a clean Caribbean horizon. It is fully exposed to the sun, so a later ceremony photographs better.
Seaside Beach
A smaller beach setting, listed for up to 150 guests at a ceremony, for couples who want the sand without the scale of the main beach.
Tulum Beach Palapa
A shaded palapa by the beach, listed for up to 120 guests. Shade is rare on a beach here, and it shows in softer light on faces.
Chapel
The most controlled option for harsh weather and midday light. Current wedding information lists up to 120 guests across the chapel and its open-air extension, with about 60 seated inside.
Secret Garden Gazebo
A secluded garden reached by a path under the palms, listed for up to 150 guests. Green, private and shaded by the trees; the light under the foliage is softer but less even. It carries its own venue fee.
Sunset Rooftop
An elevated terrace with open sky, listed for up to 150 guests at a ceremony. It is the place to see the sunset itself. Expect wind and direct light before the last part of the afternoon. It also carries its own venue fee.
Dreams Garden and Mexican Plaza
Lawn and plaza spaces for receptions of up to about 200 to 250 guests. With papel picado and lights at night, they give a reception a sense of place.

Ranges, not quotes: the rate changes with the season (August to October is usually the lowest) and the day of the week, and each source publishes a slightly different 2026 figure. Each additional guest adds roughly $18 to $185 depending on the package. Wedding in Paradise can be complimentary with a qualifying room block. Guests who are not staying at the resort need a day pass, published at about $60 for half a day and $115 for a full day, plus tax. Confirm everything with the resort’s wedding team, in writing, for your date.

First look — yes or no?
Optional here. The Secret Garden’s shade means a ceremony-first day still leaves good portrait light afterwards. If the ceremony starts less than an hour and a half before sunset, I recommend a first look, so your portraits are not racing the light.
Logistics worth knowing
Dreams Tulum covers 44 acres and the resort currently lists about 85 minutes from Cancun International Airport. Ceremony options are spread across beach, garden, chapel and rooftop zones, so transition time should be built into the photography timeline. The resort does not publish point-to-point or golf-cart times, so allow more than you expect between spaces.
Vendor rules at Dreams Tulum Resort & Spa
- Outside photographers: Accepted
- Dreams Tulum's 2024 wedding guide states that outside services must be disclosed to the wedding coordinator in advance and may carry an additional fee. Current fee mechanics and any photographer pass requirement should be confirmed in writing for the wedding date.
- These rules belong to the resort, not to me. The resort sets the fee, charges it and changes it, often from one season to the next and sometimes from one wedding to the next, so I do not publish an amount here: any number you find online is already out of date for your date. Ask your wedding coordinator at the resort to confirm it in writing, and ask early: it is a real line in the budget. It is also worth asking whether there is any flexibility. Some venues waive or reduce the fee, often when the vendor team books rooms for a few nights or when the wedding is booked through certain agencies, and plenty of couples never find out because they never ask.

The light here
The beach faces east, so the sun sets inland, behind the resort, and the sand gets soft, even light in the last hour. If you want to see the sunset itself, the Sunset Rooftop is the place. For portraits, plan the final 45 to 60 minutes before sunset on your date.

Is there a fee to bring our own photographer?
Yes. A couple marrying here was quoted an additional outside-photographer fee, and the resort does not publicly define its fee structure. The resort sets it, collects it and revises it, so we do not publish an amount: any figure would already be old for your date. Ask your wedding coordinator to confirm it in writing.
Does our photographer need a day pass?

The Sunset Rooftop, if you want the sun in the frame. The beach faces east, so the sun sets behind the resort. On the beach and in the gardens, the last hour still gives soft, even light for portraits.
