Hotel La Valise Tulum
Small luxury beachfront hideaway in Tulum known for its barefoot elegance and privacy — a natural fit for intimate weddings and elopements.
La Valise is a small luxury hideaway on Tulum beach, built for privacy rather than for scale. Sliding bed-on-a-swing suites, direct beach access and a deliberately tiny room count mean the property can effectively become yours for the day — which for photography means no strangers in the background and no waiting for spaces to clear.
We have photographed a maternity session here. It suits elopements and very small weddings, where the value is intimacy rather than infrastructure.
Where to say “I do” — and how each spot photographs
Beachfront
La Valise's beach side gives the strongest classic Tulum combination of palms, pale sand and Caribbean water. It is open to wind and bright reflected light, so avoid building the entire portrait plan around midday beach conditions.
Beachside Suites & Terraces
The hotel currently has 11 beachside suites, including rooms with direct ocean views and terraces. They can be strong getting-ready and editorial portrait environments when the booked room and event permissions allow access.
Jungle-Side Wing
Eleven suites sit on the jungle side, giving a darker, greener visual counterpoint to the beach. Treat movement between the two hotel sides as a real timeline item rather than assuming every portrait location is one step apart.
NÜ Tulum
For larger groups, La Valise's current events page says Namron commonly proposes a hotel ceremony followed by reception at nearby NÜ. NÜ is a sister restaurant/venue, not simply another room inside La Valise, so build transfer and vendor coordination into the schedule.

First look — yes or no?
Rarely needed. With a handful of guests and no transfers, the day flows naturally and there is time on both sides of the ceremony. Do it if you simply want the private moment.
Logistics worth knowing
La Valise currently has 22 rooms split between 11 jungle-side suites and 11 beachside suites. The hotel is at Carr. Tulum-Boca Paila Km 8.7 in the hotel zone. Current routing sources put the drive from CUN at roughly 126 km / about 1 hour 45 minutes in light traffic, with Tulum traffic capable of extending that. For larger events, the current Namron events page often routes reception to NÜ, so treat any ceremony-to-reception move as a separate production segment.
Vendor rules at Hotel La Valise Tulum
- Kristina has photographed here, though not a wedding, and the hotel does not publish a wedding photographer fee, vendor pass requirement or check-in procedure. Confirm all wedding-vendor access with La Valise/Namron Events in writing. Access that worked for a session in the past is not a current wedding rule.
- These rules belong to the hotel, not to me. The hotel sets the fee, charges it and changes it, often from one season to the next and sometimes from one wedding to the next, so I do not publish an amount here: any number you find online is already out of date for your date. Ask your wedding coordinator at the hotel to confirm it in writing, and ask early: it is a real line in the budget. It is also worth asking whether there is any flexibility. Some venues waive or reduce the fee, often when the vendor team books rooms for a few nights or when the wedding is booked through certain agencies, and plenty of couples never find out because they never ask.

The light here
Use the last 45 to 60 minutes before sunset for the most forgiving beach portraits, adjusted to the wedding date. La Valise faces the Caribbean, so the water is the sunrise side and the physical sunset is inland. Beach portraits can still have warm late-day color, but do not describe the sun as setting into the sea.

Can we use an outside photographer at La Valise?
The public wedding material reviewed does not publish the current outside-photographer rule or fee. Kristina has photographed non-wedding work here, but wedding access should be confirmed directly with Namron Events for the event date.
How many guests can La Valise host?
An older Namron event brochure listed up to 100 guests for a beachfront ceremony/cocktail and 30 for a seated beachfront dinner, with larger receptions moving to NÜ. The current events page no longer publishes those La Valise-specific numbers, so use them only as historical planning context and reconfirm the current capacity.
Can our reception be at NÜ?
Yes as a planning structure: La Valise's current events page says larger groups are commonly hosted at the hotels for the ceremony and then moved to NÜ for the reception. Exact buyout, timing and capacity must be quoted by Namron Events.
How much does a wedding photographer cost at La Valise Tulum?
