An Indian wedding in Mexico

A South Asian wedding on Mexico’s Caribbean coast usually lasts two or three days. These are the resorts that publish a package for them, what those packages include, and the questions that decide whether a resort really works for your family.

Where: several resorts around Cancun and the Riviera Maya publish South Asian packages, with spaces for a Mehndi, a Sangeet, the ceremony and the reception. Published prices: from about $10,049 for 50 to 80 guests to past $81,730 for the largest. Ask first: fire under the mandap, the Baraat route and music, Indian catering, and the room block.

Why the Caribbean coast

A South Asian wedding needs more than a ceremony space. It needs a place for the Mehndi, another for the Sangeet, a route for the Baraat, a mandap and a ballroom, over two or three days. The large resorts around Cancun and the Riviera Maya have all of that on one property, with rooms for the whole family.

Cancun also has the largest choice of international flights on this coast, which matters when guests fly in from several countries. Los Cabos and Puerto Vallarta host Indian weddings too. This guide covers the Caribbean coast, where I work and know the resorts.

The resorts with South Asian packages

These are the published 2026 prices of the resorts that offer a package by name for South Asian weddings, shown as ranges where the sources disagree. They are the resorts’ prices, not mine, and they change, so confirm the current rates with each resort’s wedding team. Each name links to my guide to that resort, with its venues, its light and its rain plan.

Other resorts host South Asian weddings without a package by that name, among them Hyatt Ziva Cancun and Moon Palace Cancun. Their wedding teams build the program with you.

What to ask before you choose a resort

A package tells you what is included for a set number of guests. It does not tell you whether the resort works for your family. These are the questions that decide that, and they are worth asking in writing.

  • The mandap and the fire. Where can the ceremony be, and is open flame allowed there? The answer can move the ceremony from the beach to a terrace or a ballroom.
  • The Baraat. Is a horse allowed, which route can it take, and until what time can the drums and the music play?
  • The Sangeet. Which space, indoors or outdoors, and when does the music have to stop?
  • The food. Does the resort have Indian chefs, and can an outside caterer come in? Vegetarian and Jain menus need to be planned, not improvised.
  • The guests. How many rooms does the package need, and what does each extra guest cost?
  • Outside vendors. Bringing your own photographer, decorator or DJ may add a fee that the resort sets and changes. Ask the coordinator to confirm it for your date.

How the days usually run

No two families run the same program. A common shape is a Mehndi on the first day, a Haldi or Pithi the next morning, then the Baraat, the ceremony and the Sangeet, and a reception at the end. Some families add a welcome dinner or a farewell brunch, and the order changes with religion, region and family.

I photographed a three-day celebration at Hyatt Ziva Cancun with a Mehndi, a Pithi, a Baraat, a Hindu ceremony and a Sangeet. That guide walks through its real timeline, event by event.

For the timing of outdoor events, the sun matters as much as the program. The beaches here face east, so the afternoon sun is strong and the soft light comes in the last hour before sunset. The ceremony time guide shows the sunset for every month, and the wedding weekend guide covers how to plan photography across several days.

Photographing a South Asian wedding

The coverage is built event by event, not as one long day. Each event needs its own hours, and big moments like the Baraat happen in several places at once. For larger families, two photographers make sure both sides are covered while getting ready and nobody important is missed.

What matters most is the people. The grandparents, the cousins who flew in, the aunt who organized the Sangeet. Before the first event I ask the family who matters most, so I know where to look on every day. You can see more on the South Asian weddings page.

Questions couples ask

Can you have an Indian wedding in Mexico?

Yes. Several resorts on the Caribbean coast, around Cancun and the Riviera Maya, publish packages built for South Asian weddings, with spaces for a Mehndi, a Sangeet, the ceremony and the reception across several days. The order of events changes with every family, so the program is built with yours.

Which resorts in Cancun have Indian wedding packages?

The ones I list on this page publish one by name: Le Blanc Cancun, Dreams Playa Mujeres, Grand Palladium Costa Mujeres, Dreams Natura, Dreams Riviera Cancun, Royalton Riviera Cancun, Dreams Tulum, Secrets Tulum. Others host South Asian weddings without a named package. Packages change, so confirm with each resort’s wedding team.

How much does an Indian wedding in Cancun cost?

The resorts’ published South Asian packages start from about $10,049 for around 50 to 80 guests and go past $81,730 for the largest, before extra guests, décor upgrades and outside vendors. The guest count moves the number more than anything else. Experienced destination wedding photographers in this area generally run from about $3,000 to $8,000 USD for the wedding day, and more for several days with film.

Can we have a Baraat with a horse at a Mexican resort?

Many resorts allow it, and some include it in their South Asian program. The route, the time and the music are set by the resort, so ask the coordinator in writing where the Baraat can go and until what time the drums can play.

Is a fire ceremony allowed under the mandap?

Each resort has its own rule about open flame, indoors and outdoors. Ask before you choose the ceremony space, not after. The answer can decide whether the ceremony is on the beach, on a terrace or in a ballroom.

What is the best time of year for an Indian wedding in Cancun?

November to April is the driest and most comfortable for outdoor events. Summer is hot, and from June to October short afternoon storms are common. If the family is choosing a muhurat, check the resort’s availability for those dates early.
